India has started the vaccination trials for the children of 6–12-year age groups from June, 2021. It is currently underway at AIIMS, Delhi. The children are currently being administered Covaxin, made by Bharat Biotech company.
It is to be noted that the vaccination trials are already over for the 12-18 year age group , with the trials showing positive results . They all have been administered a single dose of that vaccine . The director of AIIMS , Prabhat Kumar Singh has said that the inoculated people have been kept under observation and would be released the next day .
The 6-12 years group would be followed by the trials on 2-6 years age group . The vaccination trials are important in order to chalk out a plan for nationwide vaccination programme for this Covid-19 pandemic . Vaccination process in our country for the masses started from January 2021.
Initially , people above 45 years of age were vaccinated . Later, it was expanded to 18-45 age groups. The vaccines have now been made available for free for people ageing 18+ at government vaccination centres The second wave had caught everyone off guard, which led to a widespread destruction of the lives of the people as well as of the economy of the country.
There is also a possibility of the arrival of the third wave , which may be harmful for the kids . So it is imperative for the government to monitor these trials closely and prepare all the measures needed to counter this upcoming delta variant of the Corona virus .
