When the kids grow up , we need to introduce them to story books. Its important for them to have an idea of how stories are formed and written. It would help them to develop their cognitive skills and creativity. It would also develop their language skills as well, allowing them to enhance their vocabulary and encourage them to come up with their own compositions.
It is best to get them going with Children’s Literature. They can shift to other forms of Literature later on. At first, they must be made to read books like Panchatantra, Aesop’s Fables, 1001 Arabian Nights and other such stories. This would help them to develop an understanding of moral issues. Narrated through the use of simplest of characters, this helps them to learn about life lessons – about what one should do and helps the kids to develop morality and strength of character.
Then, they can be shifted to the epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata (the comics version) in order for them to know our culture, heritage and this allows the transmission of the same from one generation to the other. They would learn about heroic, noble deeds and the very basis of our nation.
Now, they can be gradually introduced to the classics like the works of Oscar Wilde, Hans Cristian Andersen and others in order to broaden their world-view and their imaginative skills.
